CELESTIAL COCKTAIL AROMATHERAPY:
HEAL THYSELF WITH THE ANCIENT PRINCIPLES OF COCKTAIL ASTROLOGY

The Zodiac was used, in Medieval times, to treat illness with plants under specific Astrological rulerships. Known as Herbal Astrology, a person’s maladies were either treated with herbs of their Zodiac sign, which was known as "sympathy," or with herbs of the opposite Zodiac sign, which was known as “antipathy.” Plants of our own sign support us–but plants with signs opposite to our own sign can also nurture us, perhaps even more so. For instance, Cancer is a “cool” sign (cold-natured). If you are a Cancer, it might be beneficial for you to treat yourself with the herbs of a hot sign, like Leo.

Cocktail Astrology shares the same concept. Drinking a Cocktail that shares your sign might be just as enjoyable as drinking a Cocktail of your opposite sign. A cocktail’s sign is determined by the fruit or herb with which it is made. Ultimately, a libation ends up having more than one sign–just like us. Our Astrological chart contains many different signs, the most important of which is our Sun sign. But we also have a Rising sign (our physical demeanor), a Moon sign (our emotional needs), A Venus sign (our love life), a Saturn sign (our career path), etc. Similarly, a mixed drink ends up having many different signs because of the variety of ingredients it contains. Alcohol is ruled by Mercury; simple syrup is ruled by Venus; lime juice is ruled by Saturn; and so forth and so on. The accent flavor usually captures the essence of the drink and becomes the “Sun” sign of a Cocktail. So a kumquat margarita would belong to Leo, as kumquats happen to be ruled by the Sun.

So how do you choose a cocktail that is right for you? The ancient principles of Herbal Astrology, sympathy and antipathy, may be used as a guideline. For example, Leo people should be naturally drawn to the flavors of Leo’s plants... such as the sun-drenched orange-colored kumquat, which is ruled by the sun. The moon rules over the cool cucumber, (which is an opposite-natured and complimentary plant to the kumquat), and would be beneficial for Cancer to imbibe. Treating themselves to a chilled cucumber martini could serve as liquid air conditioning for a heated sign like Leo. Likewise for Cancer, who could turn up their heat by treating themselves to a sunny citrus bevvie.
